Rocket Singh (Salesman of the Year)

Harpreet Singh Bedi (Ranbir Kapoor) has just graduated, and his marks are, well, let's say a little embarrassing. But marks never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will.

He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career for all smart people blocked from entering medical, engineering or business schools by brainless entrance exams. It's everything he dreamt of, with its smooth dressing, smoother talking men and women who can sell ice to an Eskimo, dreams to an insomniac, and a lifetime mobile connection to a dying man.

But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these 'professionals' he looked up to. 'Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year' is sometimes thoughtless, sometimes thoughtful story of a fresh graduate trying to find a balance between the maddening demands of the 'professional' way, and the way of his heart - and stumbling upon a crazy way which turned his world upside down, and his career right side up.

Welcome to the world of sales, boss!
Rocket Singh Review:Some films absorb you instantly, from the very outset. But it takes time to get into the world of a salesman who thinks from his heart.
Come to think of it, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is about a simpleton, but the story of his struggle and accomplishment isn’t the kind that would charge you or make you charter a similar path in life. Also, the story of an underdog who comes up the hard way should make you feel euphoric in the end, right? But ROCKET SINGH –SALESMAN OF THE YEAR doesn’t.
Frankly, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentary on the life of a salesman. It’s a decent film, no two opinions on that, but the question is, [a] Is the story powerful enough to excite you and [b] Does it grab your attention in entirety? Sadly, the answer to both the questions is in the negative.
There’s another problem and this is strictly from the point of those seeking entertainment. A Yash Raj film with Ranbir Kapoor [after AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI] essaying the title role, coupled with fun-filled promos ['Pocket Mein Rocket Hain'] might make you assume that it would offer loads of entertainment, but this has barely a song or two, as good as no romance and hardly any comic moments – the recipe for most Hindi movies.
In a nutshell, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is a dull and dry experience.
Harpreet Singh Bedi [Ranbir Kapoor] has just graduated and his marks are, well, let’s say a little embarrassing. But marks never stopped him from dreaming of an exciting and adventurous career, and they never will.
He takes a deep, positive breath and dives into the world of sales, rumoured to be an ultra cool career. But soon, his idea of success begins clashing with the strange ways of these ‘professionals’ and ‘bosses’ he looked up to.
ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR may be based on a simpleton’s life, but the viewer gets a hang of things only towards the second hour. The entire first hour is devoted to establishing the characters and also getting used to the way sales persons go about their business.
There’s not much excitement in the first hour, barring a few attention-grabbing scenes that pop up intermittently. The story just flows, with the viewer not reacting much to the proceedings. But things change for better towards the post-interval portions when the protagonist and his colleagues’ lives get complicated.
At least two sequences deserve a mention here. The first, when Ranbir and his boss have a lengthy telephonic conversation. The second, when the boss realises his folly and apologises to Ranbir. But, unfortunately, the culmination to the story doesn’t give the feeling of euphoria or victory. Ideally speaking, it should have. That’s one of the reasons why the impact is missing.
Shimit Amin is an efficient storyteller and he has been most faithful to the plot, but if the plot itself has its limitations, there’s not much he can do to boost the proceedings. Jaideep Sahni has had the courage to narrate a new story, but thestory is one-dimensional. Also, there screenplay is devoid of songs, romance and entertainment, which will go against the film completely.
Salim-Sulaiman’s background score is effectual. Vikash Nowlakha’s cinematography is alright.
Ranbir Kapoor is an exceptional actor and ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEARmirrors this fact. The actor underplays his part beautifully, which only goes to prove that he’s equally at ease essaying straight-out-of-life roles. Prem Chopra is exceptional. A number of new faces enact pivotal roles here, but the ones who stand out are Ranbir’s boss Puri and colleague Nitin. Both are fantastic.
D. Santosh is first-rate. Gauhar Khan leaves a strong impression. Shazahn Padamsee doesn’t get any scope.
On the whole, ROCKET SINGH – SALESMAN OF THE YEAR is more of a documentaryon the life of a salesman. Lack of music, romance and entertainment, coupled with zilch hype, will go against the film. A colossal disappointmen.

Mayandi Kudumbathar Movie Review
At a time when mass themes are being churned out and heroes portrayed as next to God, director Rasu Madhuravan has had the conviction in him to come out with a movie that stresses the need for value within a family and the need for them to stay together.
Mayandi Kudumbathar is a movie that has a strong storyline with artistes living their characters. A total of ten directors come together to tell a touchy tale. Each hog enough screen space and give their best. Rasu Madhuravan deserves credit for taking the guts to bring out the actor in director Tharun Gopi, who may not have the exact looks to appeal, but suits the character that he has donned on screen.
The whole story unfolds in a remote village in Madurai. The detailing and home work by the director deserves a special mention for it makes one glued to their seats. In short, it is the movie about the sibling rivalry between two families.
Seemingly inspired by movies like Sivaji Ganesan starrer 'Pazhani' and the recent 'Devar Magan', 'Mayandi Kudumbathar' starts off in a slow fashion narrating the bond shared between brothers and slowly settles down to a action-packed climax.
Its been a long due in Tamil cinema - a tear-jerker that convinces the audience. Thankfully the director has laced commercial elements and entertaining aspects in a right mix to make this movie work.
Manivannan (Mayandi)and G M Kumar (Virumandi) are brothers who gets split following a property dispute. The latter and his sons are keen to take revenge on Mayandi and his wards. They often cross swords with each other, but a good samaritan Mayandi prevents the inevitable from happening.
Mayandi showers all his love and affection on his younger son (Paraman) and his elder brothers (Pon Vannan, Seeman and Jagan) too care for him a lot. However after Mayandhi's death, life takes a turn and their wives starts to treat Paraman as a dirt. Fearing a catastrophe in the family because of him, Paraman decides to go away. Adding fuel to fire in his life is his girl friend's unexpected wedding with someone else.
However he realises his father's dream of completing his higher education and getting employed in a big firm. Now enters the family of Virumandi to settle scores with Paraman and his brothers. Did they succeed form the climax.
Tharun Gopi seems to have tried his best. He sings, romances and fights too. Tamilarasi and Poongodi as heroines does come out with convincing performances. The highlight is however the excellent portrayal by Mani Vannan and Mayilsamy. Both play their part exceedingly well evoking tears in the eyes of audience at many places.
Seeman, Jagan, Ravi Maria, Pon Vannan, Nandha Periyasamy, Raj Kapoor, Singam Puli among others impress.
Sabesh Murali’s earthy tunes mesmerise the audience taking them to dry barren lands of Madurai. 'Mayandi Kudumbathar' is a movie that has a story and purpose in it. For those who love emotions, 'Mayandi Kudumbathar' would be their destination.

Kandha Kottai Preview
Kandha Kottai - Fort trust
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, December 09, 2009]

Nakulan, one of the five boys in director Shankar's 'Boys', has grown in stature to establish himself as one of the important heroes in Tamil film industry.
After a good showing in 'Kadhalil Vizhunthen' and 'Masilamani', the young actor is now ready with 'Kandha Kottai', a film by debutant director Sakthivel.
Produced by Kalpathi S Agoram for AGS Entertainment, the movie has Poorna of 'Muniyandi Vilangiyal Moonramandu' fame as the heroine. Dheena has scored music.
Claiming that Nakulan would fulfill the expectations of the audience in 'Kandha Kottai', the director of the movie says: "He is a dedicated actor who takes pains for perfection. He delivers what the director wants."
On the film, he says, "The entire movie revolves around Kandha Kottai, a residential colony. Nakulan is a resident of the place while Poorna comes to the colony for vacation. Nakulan hates love while Poorna has immense respect for it. How they come together is the rest of the story."
Heapping laurels on Poorna, he says, "despite the fact that she is just one film old, she emotes well like an experienced actress. She would go places after Kandha Kottai’s release."
Expressing gratitude to producer Kalpathi S Agoram, Sakthivel, once an associate of filmmakers Radha Mohan and Priya V, says, "He has given me the opportunity with immense belief on the script. I would live up to his expectations."
'Kandha Kottai' is originaly produced by T T Raja under the banner of E S K Productions. Kalpathi Agoram has later acquired the rights and planning to release the movie soon.
Adhey Neram Adhey Idam Movie Review
Adhey Neram Adhey Idam - Lacks logic and magic
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, November 10, 2009]

Director M Prabhu, a former associate of actor - director S J Suryah, has treaded a movie that begins as a romantic entertainer but ends up a thriller. Sadly, the life and soul is missing in the movie thereby becoming a damp squib.
The pre-release publicity of 'Adhey Neram Adhey Idam' promised a lot. But the end-product unfortunately fails to cater to all expectations thanks to its weak screenplay which hardly has any logic.
Jai seems to have continued from where he left in 'Vamanan'. He plays a jobless youth in 'Adhey Neram Adhey Idam' too. Vijayalakshmi, who shared the screen space with him in 'Chennai 28' does the same here too, however as his ladylove this time.
Karthick (Jai) is a jobless youth who leads a jolly life. He falls in love with Janani (Vijayalakshmi). He falls for the moment once he spots her.
However, on his father's ('Nizhalgal' Ravi) advice, Karthick goes to Australia for a year to pursue his studies. His father takes a promise from him that during his stay in Australia, Karthick should not communicate with Janani.
Meanwhile, Janani's wedding is arranged with a rich industrialist Siva (debutant Rahul). During his return journey from Australia, Karthick meets Siva by chance and they become good friends. Siva tells Karthick to teach a lesson to Janani for cheating him without realising that she is his wife.
The scenes that unfold in the movie have no logical sequence. Jai tries to live up to the proceedings but ends up in vain as he is complimented by a weak screenplay.
Vijayalakshmi has taken to glamour as she appears in skimpy costumes in a couple of song sequences. Premji's music is cool. Had Prabhu showed more attention to the script and adopted a logical path, 'Adhey Neram Adhey Idam' would have been an entertaining stuff.

Renigunta Movie Review
Renigunta - All violence, no silence
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 05, 2009]

What can a debutant filmmaker, new team of technicians and a group of fresh faces do when they come together? They can team up to render a quality product that is engrossing from the very word go, proves director Panneerselvam.
A former associate of filmmaker Lingusamy, Panneerselvam's ‘Renigunta’ is a violent tale on the lives of young criminals. The director stress the need to manoeuvre children well and sends a strong message that criminals are not born but made. Teenage boys turning hardcore criminals and contract killers is no ordinary thing and the need to halt it seems to be the mission behind the movie.
Seemingly influenced by The City of Joy, ‘Renigunta’ has bloodshed, gore and violence almost all through. The young criminals involving in murder and heist sends chill in one's spine. The director's apt characterisation and strong team of technician gives sheen to it.
Johnny (son of producer NIC Arts Chakravarthy) makes his debut playing the lead role while a group of freshers including Sanusha, Nishanth, Theepetti Ganeshan, Thamizh, Sandeep among others make up the rest of the cast.
The movie begins in Madurai where a young boy Sakthi (Johnny) leads a happy life with his parents. A shocking incident changes his life. His parents are murdered by an anti-social and Johnny is forced to go to prison, where he is tortured. He comes across four criminals in the prison - Pandu aka Pandurangan (Nishanth), Dabba aka Prem Kumar (Theepetti Ganeshan), Mari (Thamizh) and Michael (Sandeep). They sympathise with Sakthi, who seeks solace in their company. These hardcore criminals break loose from the prison and help Johnny take revenge on his parent's killers. They decide to go to Mumbai where they plan to become big gangsters. But fate has other plans. They land at Renigunta where they come across Bunker (Bunker), who acts as mediator between contract killers and clients.
At Renigunta, these boys get the acquaintance of Sardar (an influential don) through Bunker. After a successful murder in the town, Sardar takes these boys seriously. Meanwhile, Sakthi comes across a dumb girl (Sanusha) in the neighbourhood. After a few encounters, romance blossoms between them. But the girl's brother plans to push her to flesh trade. Taking pity on Sakthi, his friends decide to help him elope with the girl, but only after completing a murder for Sardar.
But all plans go haywire when they execute their murder plans. Sakthi loses a couple of friends in front of his eyes. An angry Sakthi turns to Sardar for help. But Sardar flees from the place. Sakthi eventually teaches him a lesson by bumping him off. But did he join hands with his lover girl or not forms the climax.
Johnny as Sakthi has been impressive. His body language and dialogue delivery besides emotions sit apt for the character. Sanusha is not just cool and cute on screen, but has also performed with grace. Among the boys Nishanth and Theppati Ganeshan has been outstanding. He not just evokes terror while committing murders but successfully manages to evoke laughter in few scenes.
Due credit should be given to young cinematographer Sakthi, a former associate of Jeeva. His capturing of the action sequences looks fresh in Tamil cinema. Ganesh Raghavendra's background score sets up the momentum.
Produced by Mahendrakumar, 'Renigunta' is a raw action film. However too much blood and wielding of knives creates a fear in the audience. Had the director cut down on such scenes, 'Renigunta' could have been a destination one would love to travel.
Avatar Movie Review
Avatar - A dazzling spectacular treat.
[Tuesday, December 15, 2009]

A dazzling spectacular treat.
What is it?
‘Avatar’, Oscar winner James Cameron’s next feature after ‘Titanic’ is a dazzling spectacular treat in technical
terms but on content wise it’s another smartly woven bolywoodish romantic heart beat.
Its no surprise by now that the goras adapt the soap opearish known & accepted bollywood (or rather say human
emotions) & come out dazzling as winners, the reason they do it with technical finesse & don,t go overboard like
many of film makers or call it film fakers do.
If ‘Titanic’ was a western pajama worn over bollywood ‘amir chokri, garib chokra’ love t-shirt with a calamity
thrown in to bring an uplifting desired effect.
Then ‘Avatar’ is spectacularly symbolic, captivating and immense film themed on a very Indian belief known as re
birth or re incarnation.
Even the last year academy sweeper & the sensation at major international awards ‘Slumdog Millionire’ was a
smartly restructured Manmohan Desai’s ‘Bhai Bhai’ thingie with an element of destiny thrown in.
Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ comes in large scale, this contemporary action adventure mingled with sci fi genes & spiritual
and ecological themes is more mighty & bigger as a visual epic then his previous ‘Titanic’.
On the drama & emotional front however its fails to match the ‘titanic’ scales & this may be the reason why its
tries to sway you by its visual delights by offering it in 2D or 3D.
Cameron holds the vision together creating a spectacular world filled with both the familiar floras & fountains
(amazingly striking) and the exotic species in this anything is possible digital world.
Cameron marshals his forces well making it dazzlingly spectacular enough for us to sit through over two and a
half hours and feel satisfied.
The Story Paraplegic war veteran Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is sent to the exotic planet Pandora, replacing
his brother, who was killed. Although he's part of the military under the command of Col. Miles Quaritch (Stephen
Lang), the human presence is driven by a corporation mining a unique mineral alongside a scientific probe
directed by Dr Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver).
Humans cannot breathe Pandoran air, so they genetically engineer human/Na'vi hybrids known as Avatars. The
indigenous Na'vi are resentful - but Princess Neytiri (Zoë Saldana) befriends him and becomes his guide and
protector on the strange planet. Jake is soon caught in the middle of the conflict between the Na'vi and the
human military machine raping their world. The Highs The action sequences are superbly created by a digital army
of compositors and FX engineers - including a brigade of motion capture specialists - and the seamless visual
effects render the tall, blue Na'vi entirely credible. Some of the natural wonders are blended with imaginary
beauty in Pandora's astonishing forests, floating mountains, spectacular plants and tremendous trees - the latter
playing a key role as spiritual guardians.
Sam Worthington is perfect for the character, Jake. Stephen Lang as the military brute offers valuable support.
Sigourney Weaver is terrific as the frustrated scientist. Zoë Saldana is fascinating as the princess of the
Na'vis (who all seem to have recognizably human traits and personas. They hunt with bows and arrows, and speak a
fantasy language).
The scale is extraordinary as is the bewitching world of ‘Avatar’ that James Cameron has created with jaw-
dropping technology, stunning production design and exotic golden eyed, blue-skinned aliens whose passions are as
tangible as the giant flying dragons on which they fly. This huge ambitious project which took many years in the
planning earns ‘Avatar’ 4 out of five for the above mentioned reasons.
The Lows While visually fantastic, however emotionally it struggles to be at par & the length 2hrs 43 minutes
makes the spectacular delight a bit monotonous.
Verdict You can,t afford to miss it.

Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai Preview
Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai - Playboy's game
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, December 03, 2009]
Vishal is keeping a low profile these days. The reason is- the actor is keeping his fingers crossed for the release of his forthcoming 'Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai' (TVP), a romantic comedy directed by debutant Thiru.
"I am not going to talk much about TVP. The film itself would do all the talking. It is an usual entertainer. The story is about a guy and three beautiful girls. Thiru has shaped up the film in an interesting manner," he says.
Produced by Vishal’s GK Corporation, the film has three heroines - Neetu Chandra, Tanushree Dutta and Sarah Jane, a Mumbai-based model. Others in the cast are Santhanam, Mouli and Urvashi. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director.
Stating that the film would hit the screens come January, Vishal expresses confidence TVP would bring to light his acting skills. "Hitherto I have managed to make a mark as an action-hero. But TVP is an image makeover for me. I took it as a challenge and did my part well", he says.
For the first time, the actor plays a role with some negative shades. "I play Karthik, a playboy who has this habit of choosing the best from three options, even when it comes to his wedding. It is a thriller kind of a story from the first frame till the last".
Vishal adds that they had initially planned three big heroines, but they all expected enough screenspace for them. "Hence we chose to go with lesser known faces. More over we thought it is wise to cast fresh faces for the suspense element will be maintained."
Heaping laurels on Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vishal says his music is as usual energetic and peppy. "My association with Yuvan has been meaningful. I go to Yuvan with a film if there is something in it for him, and he delivers more than what I expect."
Talking about the film, director Thiru says, 'It is a visual treat for youngsters. Unlike Vishal's recent films which were action-oriented, TVP will be more romantic'.
"The Vishal you see in films is totally different from the real Vishal. He is trendy, suave and cool. In contrast, he is shown in films is an angry young main who comes to the city from a rural area only to cross swords with baddies."
"I know Vishal when I was working as an associate director for ‘Sathyam’. I wanted to bring on screen some real life qualities of Vishal. The end product is ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’, which will make you glued to the seats," he adds.
Vishal is playing a playboy in the film. So, is he a Casanova in real life? To this question, Thiru says, “The film only showcases certain stylish qualities of Vishal. The playboy character he is doing has no similarity to him. He is a gentleman in real life.”
On rumours that the film is inspired by a Hindi blockbuster, “there is no truth in such baseless reports. The script is original, different and will be new to Tamil cinema. The movie will tell you the answer once it hit the screens.”
Kacheri Aarambam Preview
Kacheri Aarambam - The game starts
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, November 17, 2009]

For Jeeva, ‘Thenavattu’ has perhaps showed the commercial route after trying hands in off-beat films like ‘Ram’ and ‘Kattradhu Thamizh’. Next from the actor’s den is ‘Kacheri Aarambam’, directed by a newcomer Thiraivannan.
Produced by R B Choudary for Super Good Films, the movie features Poonam Bajwa opposite Jeeva again. The two had acted together in ‘Thenavattu’ before. “I had not recommended Poonam for the role. She was the director’s choice,” says Jeeva. Thiraivannan had worked with Boopathy Pandian, Seeman and Selvabharathy before. Says the director, “it is a typical commercial entertainer. It is hilarious and there are enough action sequences too”.
On choosing Jeeva, Thiraivannan says, 'he is one of the young brigade of actors, who proved that he can excel in any kind of role. A complex character in ‘Kattradhu Thamizh’ was handled well by him, while in ‘Thenavattu’, he did with ease the role of a happy-go-lucky youngster.”
“Jeeva and Poonam Bajwa shared wonderful onscreen chemistry in ‘Thenavattu’. I felt there was nothing wrong in repeating the winning combination,” says Thiraivannan, justifying Jeeva’s statement.
Heaping laurels on producer Choudary, the director says, “he is encouraging and has the knack of tapping the right talent. He has introduced many film-makers to the industry and many of them have gone on to become legends. I am happy and privileged to associate myself with Super Good Films”.
Imman is scoring the music. “It is a commercial entertainer and I was inspired to come up with racy tunes once I heard the script,” says the music composer. Jeeva, on his part, expresses confidence that ‘Kacheri Aarambam’ will go on to become a hit.”
Odipolaama Preview
Odipolaama - Running race
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, November 14, 2009]
A film’s destiny starts with its title. A racy title always catches attention and an apt example is ‘Odipolaama’, a film starring Parimal, actress Sangeetha’s brother and Sandhya in lead roles. The movie is directed by Kanmani, who earlier wielded the megaphone for 'Aaha Ethanai Azhagu'.
"'Odipolaama’ would be a romantic entertainer but with a difference. It is the story of two people who are not in love with each other but decide to elope. The movie narrates their travails and tribulations,” the director says.
Throwing more light, he says, “I conceived the storyline long back and was waiting for a right opportunity to make it as a film. Parimal and Sandhya fit to their respective roles well. The movie has been shaped up in an interesting way.”
The rest of the cast includes Vasundhara, Mahadevan, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Suman Shetty and Thambi Ramaiah. Produced by V Barani, the movie has music by D Imman and cinematography by Anji.
Says Parimal, "I come from a family with a strong filmi background. I grew up watching movies. So I had no hesitation whatsoever in accepting 'Odipolaama'. I am thankful to the support from my family members, especially my sister."
On the movie, he says, “All credits should go to director Kanmani. Each and every scene is interesting and it is all due to him. My thanks to Sandhya and other colleagues who helped me a lot as this is my debut movie.”
On her part, Sandhya says, “ ‘Odipolaama’ will be an important movie in my career. The script is so gripping and my role has been given enough importance. It is not a run-of-the-mill kind of story, but a knot with so may twists and turns.”
Expressing happiness that her sibling has entered tinsel town, Sangeetha says, “I am proud that one more member from my family is in films. My brother needs all your blessings. I am hopeful that he will make it big.”
She adds: “I am happy that Parimal has done a fine job. And I am aware that hard work always pays rich dividends. I wish not just my brother, but the entire team of ‘Odipolaama’ a great success.”
A major portion of the movie was shot in Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangkok. Being made in Tamil and Telugu simultaneously, 'Odipolaama' will hit the screens soon.

Yogi - One and only
IndiaGlitz [Sunday, October 25, 2009]
Filmmaker Ameer is back. This time as an actor. He is playing the lead role in ‘Yogi’, directed by Subramaniam Siva of ‘Thiruda Thirudi’ fame. Produced by Ameer’s home production Team Works, plans are on to release the movie this Deepavali.
“Life in slums has changed a lot. There are many graduates and IT workers living there. We have chronicled the travails of a youth living in one such Chennai slum in ‘Yogi’,” says Ameer.
“We chose to do a movie around Chennai hutments, a hitherto unexplored area. The protagonist Yogeswaran alias Yogi leads a happy-go-lucky life and the events that he comes across in his life make up the story,” he adds.
On his playing the lead role, Ameer says, “I am comfortable directing movies. My movies ‘Mounam Pesiyadhae’, ‘Ram’ and ‘Paruthiveeran’ were well-received. But Subramaniam Siva insisted that I do the lead in ‘Yogi’. I took it as a challenge. I had rigorous workouts, reduced my weight and followed a strict diet to prepare myself for the role.”
The biggest challenge that Ameer faced on donning the greasepaint was from the director in him who awoke every time he stood before the camera. “Thankfully Subramaniam Siva took charge. He made me feel at ease and extracted the best out of me,” says Ameer. About the delay in the movie’s release, he says, “it is no easy task to shoot in various slums of Chennai. We had to wait patiently for several weeks, even to shoot one scene and incurred huge costs.
The whole team, however, worked hard. All credit to the technicians who managed to shoot the movie without much hassles. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is another highlight of the film.”
On working with Subramaniam Siva, he says, “people know him as “Manmadha Rasa” director. But he was the one who gave us a serious romantic story in a lighter vein in ‘Thiruda Thirudi’. I was impressed with his work when I shot for ‘Yogi’. He is sure to go places after this.”

Kanden Kadhalai - When they met
IndiaGlitz [Friday, October 23, 2009]
Love stories always come with a charm. If told beautifully, never had they failed to mesmerise movie lovers. 'Kanden Kadhalai', starring Bharath and Tamannah in the lead, may fall into this category.
A remake of blockbuster Hindi movie 'Jab We Met', the film directed by Kannan of 'Jayam Kondaan' fame is produced by Moser Baer and Blue Ocean Entertainment. Sun Pictures, known for its shrewd marketing strategies, has acquired the release rights.
Says director Kannan, "It is an entertaining movie and will be an instant hit with youngsters. A major portion of the movie was shot in Madurai and its adjoining areas. We erected a set resembling a Buddha temple and canned a song sequence on it."
The original version, directed by Imtiaz Ali, featured Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. Imtiaz, who was the guest of honour at the music launch of 'Kanden Kadhalai', said during the event: "The mistakes I made in the original have been cleverly avoided by Kannan. I am sure that the Tamil version would make it big in the box office."
On the film, Bharath says: "These days, it’s not easy to get a look at the complete script at the outset itself. Most often, while shooting, we don't even know what the next scene would be. But things are not the same in 'Kanden Kadhalai', thanks to director Kannan, who was ready with the full script even before the film could take off.'
Dhananjayan of Moser Baer says they decided to do the film in Tamil mainly because of its appealing theme. "Kannan and his team deserve kudos for their work," he says.
The movie is about Sakthi (Bharath) and Anjali (Tamannah). Sakthi, a down-to-earth unsuccessful young lad meets Anjali, a bubbly young girl with her own dreams and passions.
As their journey begin, they are thrown open to fun, frolic, pain and emotions. Mumbai model Sapan Saran plays the role of the second heroine while 'Silandhi' fame Munna plays another hero. The film has music by Vidyasagar.

Peranmai - A man and his mission
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, September 30, 2009]
Nothing is going to stop film buffs from getting charged up this Deepavali. For, 'Peranmai', an action-packed heavy budget entertainer directed by S P Jananathan with 'Jayam' Ravi in the lead is getting ready to hit the screens.
Ravi has lost weight for the role of a forest officer in this film. He plays a one-man army in 'Peranmai', similar to that of Sylvester Stallone in 'Rambo'. Vasundra, Saranya, Varsha, Tanusika and Liyasree play the lead female roles.
"I was impressed when Jananathan narrated the story to me. I did rigorous work-outs to suit the role. I learnt martial arts and archery for the movie. Shooting in dense jungles was a great experience," says the actor.
Hailing Ravi, Jananathan says, "He is an actor of commitment and dedication. I am sure that this film is going to be a milestone in Ravi's career."
'Peranmai' is produced by Ayngaran International, a production house synonym with grandeur. After the critical success of 'Iyarkkai' and the commercial success of 'E', Jananathan has been entrusted with the job of making 'Peranmai' by Karunamoorthy and Arun Pandian of Ayngaran.
Thanks to the producers, the film will be seeing some novel technical stuff like helicopter cameras being used for the first time in Tamil cinema.
According to reliable sources, the movie is about how a forest officer (played by Ravi), with the help of five girls, foils the plans of terrorists to enter the country.
Former Mr Universe and Hollywood actor Roland Kickinger plays the baddie. The film has Ravi doing a full length action role as a tribal and forest guard who fights against international terrorists led by Kickinger who are trying to destroy our forest and thereby the ecological system using bio technology.

NAMAJI ATTAINS SIDDHI
We write with a heavy heart, to inform Devotees that
Sri Namaji, our spiritual leading light, the beacon

feet of Sathguru Gnanananda. He was the inspiration
behind guiding force in all our activities, Avant Garde
of Gurujis mission, an unique personality in the field
of Namasankeerthan and above all, a thoroughly loving
and adorable leader. Namaji had taken ill early this
month when He had led a group of Bhagavathas to
Koteeswar and was receiving treatment at the All India
Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi for lung condition.
Later He was shifted to the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi.
Despite intensive treatment, the end came at 10.15 PM on
the 24th September, 2009.
His mortal remains were brought by special Aircraft to
Chennai on the evening of 25th and taken to Thennangur
immediately. He was laid to rest on the morning of
Saturday, the 26th in a Samadhi at Thennangur in
accordance with full Vedic procedures. Hundreds of
devotees, mostly local and a lot from abroad who could
make immediate travel arrangements had congregated at
Thennangur. Further religious functions in connection
with the Samadhi took place at Thennangur on 5th, 6th
and 7th of October. A large number of devotees and
Bhagavathas paid homage. It is proposed to construct a
Thulasi Maadam and Meditation hall at the Samadhi site
in due course.
We humbly pray to our Sathguru Gnanananda, our Guruji
and Namaji to continue to shower their ever flowing
blessings on one and all and guide us at this critical
hour.

Priyadarshan?s latest movie Chup Chup Ke meanders between

comedy and melodrama.

The film, a farcical comedy of errors, stars Shahid Kapur ,

Kareena Kapoor , Rajpal Yadav , Paresh Rawal , Sunil Shetty ,

Om Puri , Sushma Reddy and Anupam Kher .
Shahid Kapur?s cherubic charm makes him perfectly suited for

the character of Jeetu, a small-town guy with a conspicuous

lack of business acumen. Jeetu is engaged to Pooja (Sushma

Reddy). He is tragically unlucky in every moneymaking

enterprise he ventures into. Overburdened by debts, scorned at

by his father-in-law, Jeetu decides to commit suicide so that

his father (Anupam Kher) can settle the debts with the

insurance money.

But Jeetu fails even in this endeavor and is fished out of the

sea by two quirky fishermen Bandya (Rajpal Yadav) and Gundya

(Paresh Rawal), who mistake him to be a rich guy after finding

a slip in his pocket. Jeetu conveniently pretends that he is

mute and deaf.

Gundya decides to use Jeetu and Bandya to settle his old debt

to a Gujarati businessman. He sends the two to do household

chores in the house of Prabhat Singh (Om Puri).

In this household, while Bandya goes about the daily chores,

Jeetu develops a rapport with Prabhat Singh?s niece Shruti

(Kareena Kapoor) and her cousin Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia).

Like Jeetu, Shruti too is mute. She is a simple girl who spends

her time painting canvases, praying and whiling away time with

Meenakshi, who is her voice.

The Gujarati household also has Shruti?s overprotective brother

Mangal (Sunil Shetty), who is overexcited about the prospect of

marrying his sister to a rich Gujarati businessman.

In the meantime, Jeetu?s secret is exposed to Shruti and her

cousin. They promise to keep his secret under the condition

that he must help them break Shruti?s marriage with the

Gujarati businessman.

Love sprouts and blossoms between Shruti and Jeetu. And Shrutis

overprotective brother comes to know of this. In a surprising

twist, Mangal gives in to his sister?s wishes and accepts Jeetu

as a possible groom for Shruti.

But Jeetu?s troubles are far from over. His fianc?e Pooja shows

up. Jeetu finds himself in a romantic tangle. He has to choose

one of the two women.

Priyadarshan has not attempted to make an out-and-out comedy

film. Chup Chup Ke has a sufficient dose of humour to entertain

and enough drama to pull a couple of strings at heart. However,

the overall impact of this fusion remains a tad tepid. From

comedy to drama, the plot oscillates unconvincingly and by the

time the movie draws to close, the farce is stretched to the

point of snapping.

Humour and gags work in the sequences featuring Rajpal Yadav,

Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. Rajpal Yadav?s naturally

unassuming demeanor and the witty lines he delivers make for an

entertaining watch. Paresh Rawal is brilliant as usual, but he

should have been given more footage in the film.

Shahid Kapur plays his part comfortably and convincingly. The

young actor also gets to show his flair for humour in some

sequences. However, his chemistry with Kareena Kapoor still

leaves much to be desired. Kareena has no dialogues in the

film, but she enacts her mute part very well.

Surprisingly, Neha Dhupia leaves quite an impact in this film

with her new, homely avatar. She ought to take more of similar

roles.

Om Puri does invoke a few laughs while playing his raucous

character. Sunil Shetty is plain average.

Chup Chup Ke does entertain in the first half. In the second

half, the plot steers into the unexpected territory where

family drama, mushy emotions and sentimentality take

precedence.
Seen renigunta (Johnny, Sanusha, Nishanth and Sandeep).Banner:

Film Fabricators
Cast: Johnny, Sanusha, Nishanth and Sandeep
Director: Panneerselvam
Music: Ganesh Raghavendra
Lyrist: Na. Muthukumar

It appears this may well be the Golden age in the history of

Tamil cinema in terms of a rapid increase in realistic,

sensible films being made. In the midst of today’s ultra-modern

magnum opuses from India and abroad, look at the list of recent

realistic Tamil films: Subramaniapuram, Saroja, Vaaranam

Aayiram, Poo, Abhiyum Naanum, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Naan

Kadavul, TN 07 AL 4777, Yavarum Nalam, Pasanga, Naadodigal,

Gnabagangal, Sindhanai Sei, Eeram, Unnaipol Oruvan etc. All

these were highly-acclaimed, not just because they narrated

fresh stories, but were so naturalistic that even an average

cinemagoer could feel the intensity of human experiences, be it

positive or negative. Renigunta, director Panneerselvam’s

latest, made with newcomers including producer S.S.

Chakravarthy’s son Johnny as hero, is one such outstanding film

which leaves a great impact on viewers. Once you come out of

the theatre, you would surely believe that the “to live or not

to live” episodes in Renigunta should never happen to you. So

go and watch Renigunta, but leave your small kids at home.

(Renigunta is ‘A’ certified.)
The story goes like this: Sakthi is a happy-go-lucky guy, but

his father Sethupathi, a clerk, has great dreams that his son

should become a successful engineer. Realizing Sakthi’s

inability to be outstanding in studies due to his limited

brainpower, his father stops compelling him to become an

engineer; rather, he inspires him to choose any vocation he can

shine in! Sakthi’s peaceful family life suddenly vanishes when

his parents are brutally murdered (in front of him and an

apathetic public) by Kathir, prime accused of a murder case in

which Sakthi’s father was a key eyewitness. Broken up by the

painful and tragic loss of his loving parents, Sakthi decides

to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder

attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days.
Due to his shy nature, Sakthi has to undergo severe harassments

from the jail guards, where he meets four young, inborn

criminals including lame Dabba and fat guy Pandu. He becomes

friendly with them only to avoid torment from the jailers.

Sakthi has no plans to join the group, but at the same time, is

greatly attracted by their love and concerns. The four guys

plan to escape from jail; at the last moment, they forcibly

take Sakthi to the world of freedom and gradually introduce him

to a criminal life.
In flashback, the guys come to know about Sakthi’s past and

decide to kill Kathir. After executing Kathir, the five friends

take a train to Mumbai to avoid the police special force, but

fate leads them to a local don in Renigunta (near Tirupati,

Andhra Pradesh). In Renigunta, Sakthi meets a dumb girl and

love slowly blossoms between them. In fact, the girl’s

brother-in-law is a pimp, procuring for his own wife. Realizing

her husband’s intention to introduce her dumb sister into the

fresh trade, the akka requests Sakthi to elope with her younger

sister. With the consent his friends, Sakthi fixes a date to

leave the place with his lover.
Meanwhile, the local don hires these five friends to kill a

prominent contractor, leading to a big twist in the whole

story. The murder attempt fails; Pandu is beaten to death on

the spot by contractor’s security guards. The special force

swoops down on the rest of the teammates who are brutally

killed one by one, except for Sakthi. Whether he manages to

escape from the police and accomplish his dream of a peaceful

life with his lover forms the rest of the film.
One can’t say that Renigunta only has bloody violence; it also

has plenty of (black) comedy, romance and sentiments, and all

components are convincingly presented just as in

Subramaniapuram. Thanks to director Panneerselvam, Renigunta is

completely free from any sort of exaggeration, be it in

graphics, number of songs, length and “superman effects” of the

fight scenes. All credit goes to Panneerselvam’s clean script,

the highlight of the film, which gives everything in the right

proportion. In short, Renigunta simply rocks!

24-01-2010 Sunday Morning coffee seen renigunta end part.
Today straigt meals at 12 Noon Kaliflower seekoottu. We started

for temple at 1PM and 1 hour drive to MahaGanapathi temple for

Sathya Narayana Pooja. Pooja at 3 Pm and started at 3:120PM and

finished at 5PM. Chithra Shanmugam also has come. Back home by

6PM. I was seeing arumugam. Aarthi put Tare jamin per Hindi DVD

and I stopped my movie and seen that. Night dinner at Jayanthi

house told. Aarthi told that Jayanthi hr friend invited for

dinner and asked me is it OK and I said no problem. WHen they

all are going there for dinner and invited and what should I do

and said OK. After that Aarthi told tiffin in our house only.

Only they three to chat only told it seems. I said Ok. She told

at 8:30PM she will give me tiffin. Jayanthi has come and were

talking and feeding SriKrishna. It was 9:15PM and askedme and I

told you were feeding him. She gave me onion dosa good one.
Seen Arumugam movie (Bharath, Priyamani, Saranya Mohan, Ramya

Krishnan, Ilavarasu, Karunas, Satyan and others…).
Every once in a while, just when you think Tamil cinema is

taking a step in the right direction with serious scripts and

different formats comes a movie like Kool Productions'

Arumugam. The film destroys any faith you might have in

creativity and execution. When the culprit in question is

Suresh Krishna, veteran of commercial blockbusters like

Annamalai and Baasha, there doesn't seem to be any hope left.

With a cast like Bharath, Priya Mani [ Images ], Ramya Krishnan

[ Images ] and a host of other regulars, this film should be on

its way to becoming a runaway hit. So why isn't it? Here are a

few reasons:

1. Rehashing the entire script of old tried and trusted hits

(like Annamalai) will not work. The hero Arumugam (Bharath) is

dressed up in oversized shirts with a towel wrapped around his

middle. Instead of having him sell milk, he's an idli-vendor.

Of course, Arumugam faithfully imitates the Superstar

Rajnikant's lingo, hand gestures and body language until he has

the audience squirming in their seats.

2. Making him have a friend like Annamalai's Sarath Babu. Here,

it is Karthik (Aditya), a rather washed-out looking guy, meant

to reflect the upper class. The rich Karthik, for no reason, is

somehow poor Arumugam's closest friend. Getting the poor

cinematographer S K Boopathy to add deepening sun-rays for

effect don't really work either.

3. Getting Saranya Mohan to play Mallika, Arumugam's sister,

yet another washed out character whose apparent purpose in life

is to hike up her pavadai, moan about her brother, serve idlis

and run around with nothing to do. When will someone give this

pretty girl a chance to act?

4. Roping in National Award winning actress Priya Mani to play

the silly Yamini, Arumugam's love interest. Why would a rich

father marry his daughter off to an idli-vendor, no questions

asked, is a million-dollar question. Add to that the fact that

Yamini has never even seen Arumugam, only corresponded to him

through letters (in this day and age) and you have the silliest

romance of the century.

5. Adding, in an attempt to ape the cult-classic Padaiyappa,

yet another version of Nilambari -- this time, it's Malini

Devi, essayed by Ramya Krishnan, looking sensuous as ever, but

also bored out of her wits. She's haughty, beautiful, willing

to do anything to thwart Arumugam because the young man foiled

her lofty ideals for her brother Karthik's marriage. The way

she retaliates would make you shriek with laughter. She's a

carbon copy of Nilambari and exists for no purpose but to let

Arumugam have the screen space to ape Rajnikanth's [ Images ]

body language. The rest of the cast isn't even worth talking

about.

6. In addition to all the above reasons, there's Deva's music,

borrowed, rehashed and boring as ever, while Premgi's dialogues

are terribly clichéd and lack any substance.

What is really puzzling is why the cast chose to act in a movie

(no matter how long ago that was) that's so devoid of any logic

or charm that you can barely sit in the theatre after half an

hour. An ever bigger mystery is why Suresh Krishna felt the

need to come up with a half-baked storyline culled from several

different Rajni movies, and serve them up to his audience. In

fact, you wonder if he really did direct this film at all.
25-01-2010 Monday Morning Seen Neeya Naana (paniyalargal Vs

Nugarvor).
Took dosa sabji. Seen Deal No Deala (Chellammal). Aarthi

prepared vegetable pulav and took lunch at 1:15PM. Seen Tare

Jamin per movie DVD in TV.

Madurai Sambhavam, an action packed movie set in Madurai. The

film is about the gang wars, Betrayal and Revenge. Also has the

basic ingredients of a masala entertainer like Glamour,

Romance, Action, Kuthu and Tiruvizha Songs.
Aalamarathaan(Radharavi) a bigwig in Aattuthotti, a place in

Madurai. He is dreaded by his enemies. His word is the law

among the people. He involves in ‘Katta Panchayat’ and instant

justice is meted out to those who break the rule. He lives with

his family consisting of his son Kutty(Harikumar), Son-in-Law,

Daughter, grand daughter and his Mother. Gomathi(Karthika) is a

relative of Kutty and she is madly in love with him.
Aalamarathaan is supported by his Son-in-Law,Marudhu and Kutty.

Enters ‘Cut-out’ Ganesan(Kadhal Dhandapani), local MP, who has

come to power with the support of Aalamarathaan. Ganesan and

Aalamarathaan enter in loggerheads and Cutout decides to end

Aalamarathaan and his loyal men’s. With the support of DIG

Subramani(Rajkappoor) he tries to bump off Aalamarathaan and

gang but all his attempts get failed. Meanwhile Kutty bumps off

Ganesan’s in-law.
Enters Carolene Thomas(Anuya) a police officer who has been

appointed specially to restore Law & Order of the troublesome

area. On the course of her local visit, she meets Kutty and

it’s love at first sight, which leads to a twist in the tale.

Kutty believes in Carolene words. Meawhile Kutty’s uncle

Marudhu gets killed and Aalamarathaan thinks that Marudhu is

killed by Ganesan and gang. He seeks revenge and kills Cutout

Ganesan and his wife.
Aalamarathaan goes to his friend’s place and instructs Kutty to

be cautious. After a series of unexpected events, the movie

ends with a chilling climax.
Harikumar excels in action sequences but has to work on

emotions. Radha Ravi is competent with his dignified make-up,

slow dialogue delivery and body language, steals the show.

Anuya,in a deglamourished role. Her subtle expressions and

emotions deserves special mention. Karthika is passable.
Sukumar’s camera and John Peter’s music are average. Director

Eurekha has tried to give a complete action packed mass

entertainer and has delivered it hot.

Priyadarshan?s latest movie Chup Chup Ke meanders between comedy and melodrama.

The film, a farcical comedy of errors, stars Shahid Kapur , Kareena Kapoor , Rajpal Yadav , Paresh Rawal , Sunil Shetty , Om Puri , Sushma Reddy and Anupam Kher .
Shahid Kapur?s cherubic charm makes him perfectly suited for the character of Jeetu, a small-town guy with a conspicuous lack of business acumen. Jeetu is engaged to Pooja (Sushma Reddy). He is tragically unlucky in every moneymaking enterprise he ventures into. Overburdened by debts, scorned at by his father-in-law, Jeetu decides to commit suicide so that his father (Anupam Kher) can settle the debts with the insurance money.

But Jeetu fails even in this endeavor and is fished out of the sea by two quirky fishermen Bandya (Rajpal Yadav) and Gundya (Paresh Rawal), who mistake him to be a rich guy after finding a slip in his pocket. Jeetu conveniently pretends that he is mute and deaf.

Gundya decides to use Jeetu and Bandya to settle his old debt to a Gujarati businessman. He sends the two to do household chores in the house of Prabhat Singh (Om Puri).

In this household, while Bandya goes about the daily chores, Jeetu develops a rapport with Prabhat Singh?s niece Shruti (Kareena Kapoor) and her cousin Meenakshi (Neha Dhupia).

Like Jeetu, Shruti too is mute. She is a simple girl who spends her time painting canvases, praying and whiling away time with Meenakshi, who is her voice.

The Gujarati household also has Shruti?s overprotective brother Mangal (Sunil Shetty), who is overexcited about the prospect of marrying his sister to a rich Gujarati businessman.

In the meantime, Jeetu?s secret is exposed to Shruti and her cousin. They promise to keep his secret under the condition that he must help them break Shruti?s marriage with the Gujarati businessman.

Love sprouts and blossoms between Shruti and Jeetu. And Shrutis overprotective brother comes to know of this. In a surprising twist, Mangal gives in to his sister?s wishes and accepts Jeetu as a possible groom for Shruti.

But Jeetu?s troubles are far from over. His fianc?e Pooja shows up. Jeetu finds himself in a romantic tangle. He has to choose one of the two women.

Priyadarshan has not attempted to make an out-and-out comedy film. Chup Chup Ke has a sufficient dose of humour to entertain and enough drama to pull a couple of strings at heart. However, the overall impact of this fusion remains a tad tepid. From comedy to drama, the plot oscillates unconvincingly and by the time the movie draws to close, the farce is stretched to the point of snapping.

Humour and gags work in the sequences featuring Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Shakti Kapoor. Rajpal Yadav?s naturally unassuming demeanor and the witty lines he delivers make for an entertaining watch. Paresh Rawal is brilliant as usual, but he should have been given more footage in the film.

Shahid Kapur plays his part comfortably and convincingly. The young actor also gets to show his flair for humour in some sequences. However, his chemistry with Kareena Kapoor still leaves much to be desired. Kareena has no dialogues in the film, but she enacts her mute part very well.

Surprisingly, Neha Dhupia leaves quite an impact in this film with her new, homely avatar. She ought to take more of similar roles.

Om Puri does invoke a few laughs while playing his raucous character. Sunil Shetty is plain average.

Chup Chup Ke does entertain in the first half. In the second half, the plot steers into the unexpected territory where family drama, mushy emotions and sentimentality take precedence.
Seen renigunta (Johnny, Sanusha, Nishanth and Sandeep).Banner: Film Fabricators
Cast: Johnny, Sanusha, Nishanth and Sandeep
Director: Panneerselvam
Music: Ganesh Raghavendra
Lyrist: Na. Muthukumar

It appears this may well be the Golden age in the history of Tamil cinema in terms of a rapid increase in realistic, sensible films being made. In the midst of today’s ultra-modern magnum opuses from India and abroad, look at the list of recent realistic Tamil films: Subramaniapuram, Saroja, Vaaranam Aayiram, Poo, Abhiyum Naanum, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, Naan Kadavul, TN 07 AL 4777, Yavarum Nalam, Pasanga, Naadodigal, Gnabagangal, Sindhanai Sei, Eeram, Unnaipol Oruvan etc. All these were highly-acclaimed, not just because they narrated fresh stories, but were so naturalistic that even an average cinemagoer could feel the intensity of human experiences, be it positive or negative. Renigunta, director Panneerselvam’s latest, made with newcomers including producer S.S. Chakravarthy’s son Johnny as hero, is one such outstanding film which leaves a great impact on viewers. Once you come out of the theatre, you would surely believe that the “to live or not to live” episodes in Renigunta should never happen to you. So go and watch Renigunta, but leave your small kids at home. (Renigunta is ‘A’ certified.)
The story goes like this: Sakthi is a happy-go-lucky guy, but his father Sethupathi, a clerk, has great dreams that his son should become a successful engineer. Realizing Sakthi’s inability to be outstanding in studies due to his limited brainpower, his father stops compelling him to become an engineer; rather, he inspires him to choose any vocation he can shine in! Sakthi’s peaceful family life suddenly vanishes when his parents are brutally murdered (in front of him and an apathetic public) by Kathir, prime accused of a murder case in which Sakthi’s father was a key eyewitness. Broken up by the painful and tragic loss of his loving parents, Sakthi decides to take revenge, but in vain. He is caught in his murder attempt due to his inexperience and remanded for 14 days.
Due to his shy nature, Sakthi has to undergo severe harassments from the jail guards, where he meets four young, inborn criminals including lame Dabba and fat guy Pandu. He becomes friendly with them only to avoid torment from the jailers. Sakthi has no plans to join the group, but at the same time, is greatly attracted by their love and concerns. The four guys plan to escape from jail; at the last moment, they forcibly take Sakthi to the world of freedom and gradually introduce him to a criminal life.
In flashback, the guys come to know about Sakthi’s past and decide to kill Kathir. After executing Kathir, the five friends take a train to Mumbai to avoid the police special force, but fate leads them to a local don in Renigunta (near Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh). In Renigunta, Sakthi meets a dumb girl and love slowly blossoms between them. In fact, the girl’s brother-in-law is a pimp, procuring for his own wife. Realizing her husband’s intention to introduce her dumb sister into the fresh trade, the akka requests Sakthi to elope with her younger sister. With the consent his friends, Sakthi fixes a date to leave the place with his lover.
Meanwhile, the local don hires these five friends to kill a prominent contractor, leading to a big twist in the whole story. The murder attempt fails; Pandu is beaten to death on the spot by contractor’s security guards. The special force swoops down on the rest of the teammates who are brutally killed one by one, except for Sakthi. Whether he manages to escape from the police and accomplish his dream of a peaceful life with his lover forms the rest of the film.
One can’t say that Renigunta only has bloody violence; it also has plenty of (black) comedy, romance and sentiments, and all components are convincingly presented just as in Subramaniapuram. Thanks to director Panneerselvam, Renigunta is completely free from any sort of exaggeration, be it in graphics, number of songs, length and “superman effects” of the fight scenes. All credit goes to Panneerselvam’s clean script, the highlight of the film, which gives everything in the right proportion. In short, Renigunta simply rocks!

Seen Arumugam movie (Bharath, Priyamani, Saranya Mohan, Ramya Krishnan, Ilavarasu, Karunas, Satyan and others…).
Every once in a while, just when you think Tamil cinema is taking a step in the right direction with serious scripts and different formats comes a movie like Kool Productions' Arumugam. The film destroys any faith you might have in creativity and execution. When the culprit in question is Suresh Krishna, veteran of commercial blockbusters like Annamalai and Baasha, there doesn't seem to be any hope left.

With a cast like Bharath, Priya Mani [ Images ], Ramya Krishnan [ Images ] and a host of other regulars, this film should be on its way to becoming a runaway hit. So why isn't it? Here are a few reasons:

1. Rehashing the entire script of old tried and trusted hits (like Annamalai) will not work. The hero Arumugam (Bharath) is dressed up in oversized shirts with a towel wrapped around his middle. Instead of having him sell milk, he's an idli-vendor. Of course, Arumugam faithfully imitates the Superstar Rajnikant's lingo, hand gestures and body language until he has the audience squirming in their seats.

2. Making him have a friend like Annamalai's Sarath Babu. Here, it is Karthik (Aditya), a rather washed-out looking guy, meant to reflect the upper class. The rich Karthik, for no reason, is somehow poor Arumugam's closest friend. Getting the poor cinematographer S K Boopathy to add deepening sun-rays for effect don't really work either.

3. Getting Saranya Mohan to play Mallika, Arumugam's sister, yet another washed out character whose apparent purpose in life is to hike up her pavadai, moan about her brother, serve idlis and run around with nothing to do. When will someone give this pretty girl a chance to act?

4. Roping in National Award winning actress Priya Mani to play the silly Yamini, Arumugam's love interest. Why would a rich father marry his daughter off to an idli-vendor, no questions asked, is a million-dollar question. Add to that the fact that Yamini has never even seen Arumugam, only corresponded to him through letters (in this day and age) and you have the silliest romance of the century.

5. Adding, in an attempt to ape the cult-classic Padaiyappa, yet another version of Nilambari -- this time, it's Malini Devi, essayed by Ramya Krishnan, looking sensuous as ever, but also bored out of her wits. She's haughty, beautiful, willing to do anything to thwart Arumugam because the young man foiled her lofty ideals for her brother Karthik's marriage. The way she retaliates would make you shriek with laughter. She's a carbon copy of Nilambari and exists for no purpose but to let Arumugam have the screen space to ape Rajnikanth's [ Images ] body language. The rest of the cast isn't even worth talking about.

6. In addition to all the above reasons, there's Deva's music, borrowed, rehashed and boring as ever, while Premgi's dialogues are terribly clichéd and lack any substance.

What is really puzzling is why the cast chose to act in a movie (no matter how long ago that was) that's so devoid of any logic or charm that you can barely sit in the theatre after half an hour. An ever bigger mystery is why Suresh Krishna felt the need to come up with a half-baked storyline culled from several different Rajni movies, and serve them up to his audience. Anthuleni Katha (1976)

Plot 1
Saritha ( Jayaprada ) is a working woman in a middle class family. She works hard to support her widowed sister, unmarried sister, her blind younger brother, her mother, her drunkard brother Murthy and his family. Her father abandons the family and becomes a saint. Her brother not only does not take responsibilities, but also creates additional problems for her. She has a longtime boyfriend, who wants to marry her, but she doesn't because of her commitment to her family. His eyes now wander to Saritha's widowed younger sister ( Sripriya ) who reciprocates his feelings. Saritha, after reading her boyfriend's love letter to her sister, arranges for them to get married, thus giving up her chance of having a life with him. She eventually accepts a marriage proposal of her boss ( Kamal Hassan ), when she realizes that her brother has become responsible enough to take care of her family. She also helps her distressed friend, played by Phataphat Jayalaksmi to settle in life. She decides to resign from hard work, but could not as the result of turning point in a typical Balachandar style climax.
Plot 2
Anthuleni Katha (Telugu) (meaning story without ending) is a 1976 Telugu film directed by K. Balachander. This is Jayaprada's first starring role and is considered to be one of her best films. Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan play key roles. This film was shot in black-and-white.
SriKrishna was playing with me and slept. Aarthi prepared mango gotsu brinjal palya and took lunch at 1PM. Seen Seethakoka Chilaka (Karthik, Aruna & Sarath babu).

Evening aarthi gave me a Apple coffee. Uploaded SriKrishna photos and sent to raja hari and others.
Seethakoka chilaka (1981)
Murali (Karthik), Aruna, Sarathbabu, Master Ali, Sakshi Rangarao, Rallapalli, Janaki, Smitha, Kongara Jaggaiah (Special Appearance) and Others.
Mucharla Aruna, Murali (Karthik), Sarathbabu, Smitha and Rallapalli appear in the movie produced under the banner of Poornodaya Movie Creations by Edida Nageswara Rao, and directed by Bharathi Raja. Janaki ekes out a living as a music teacher and with her slender means educates her son. The son, Raghu, a happy go lucky young man whiles away his time doing nothing serious, and is always found in the company of five of his friends. They tease Aruna, David's sister, back home for vacation, for her bad songs. Aruna starts learning from Janaki. In course of time Raghu and Aruna develop love for each other. David in a rage when he comes to know of this warns Janaki of very serious consequences if the affair continues. On the advice of David's wife and with the help of his friends, Raghu tries to elope with Aruna, but their attempt is foiled by David. The movie, however, ends with Raghu and Aruna united in wedlock, thus proving that religion cannot stand in the way of real love.

The film was a remake of the Tamil film 'Alaigal Oivathilai'. Karthik's name appears in the credits as Murali. Kongara Jaggaiah has made a special appearance in the film, while ace comedian Ali makes his presence felt as one of the five friends of Raghu. The movie bagged the silver medal at the national level, and the Golden Nandi award at the state level.

Vaaranam Aayiram
Suriya, Simran, Sameera Reddy, Divya
Gautam Vasudev Menon’s Vaaranam Ayiram is intended to be a biography of an ordinary man. What could have been a subtly told story turns into a sloppy fare with way too much of daddy-glorification and emotional I-love-you-and-I-see-you-in-everything-dialogues. However, this memoirs-of-my-dad would have been a wonderful watch if it did not adopt a schmaltzy narrative often, more often than you think actually, interrupted with songs.
Gautam has derived inspiration for Vaaranam Ayiram from his own life and hence the movie is by and large close to real life with only very few scenes seeming out of place. Like the middle-class Surya, whose dad struggles to keep up with his family’s expenses, flies down to the USA in search of his love-at-first-sight Sameera - now that is far fetched. However, as clichéd as his love might seem, his sufferings sound more genuine – a feeling that the ‘Anjale’ song only upsurges.

The movie opens with an older version of Surya, suffering from throat cancer, succumbing to his disease. With the bare minimum background score and subdued acting, the scene helps to mound the expectations for a few minutes. The news then is conveyed to the son, played by Surya again, who is on a defense operation somewhere in Kashmir. The rest of the movie is the son’s reminiscences of his father – the son’s role overriding the father’s in the process, however.

The first half of the movie drifts away with nothing significant in the offing. In less than half-hour, it breaks into two songs. Surya (dad/son) falls in love twice and loses the love of his life. The second half, however, spruces up with the kidnap episode and the journalist rescue operation.
Vaaranam Aayiram is an out and out Surya show. When the man disrobes his tee to flaunt his rippling muscles acquired after hard slog, the ladies scream their lungs out. His subtle expressions after losing out his dad to cancer score as good as his screams and emotional turbulence after losing his girl. Surya Senior’s makeup screams for attention, though.

Simran comes a close second with her puffed eyes and refined articulation of emotions announcing that she is ageing gracefully. Sameera has a constant grin, which is adorable. But all she could come up with after seeing her stalker at her doorsteps in the US is a surprised expression after getting a scoop of her favorite ice cream unexpectedly. Surya – Sameera’s first meet in the train is well conceived and executed. Divya, however, is in her quietest form oozing loads of sophisticated attitude.

There are touching and heart-warming moments in the movie; however, they are few and far between. Like the scene in which the cancer patient dad expresses his helplessness in telling stories to his grandson since his vocal chords no longer support him and Simran’s emotional silent outburst when she is being told that her husband is about to start his final procession to the burial ground.

Harris’ music complements Thamarai’s lyrics with almost all songs, albeit termed as interruptions, hummable. And as Sudha Raghunathan breaks into the Anal Mele song in her unconventionally mellifluous voice, the movie’s sluggish pace is curtailed. Adiye Kolluthe, partly rendered by Shruti Hassan, seems to mark the beginning of Tamil punk-rock.

The three hour long movie

After remaking veteran director K Balachander's 'Nan Avan Illai', Selvah is ready with the remake of the recent Bollywood hit 'Yes Boss'.

'Yes Boss', the original had Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla in the lead with Aditya Pancholi doing a supporting role.

'Guru En Aalu' will mark KRG's 49th production - the producer returns to filmmaking after a five-year hiatus.

Says Selvah: 'It's a light-hearted comedy. Guru (Madhavan) is a young ambitious man who will do anything to keep his boss Krishna (Abbas) happy. Guru aspires to start his own advertising agency as promised by his boss and everything goes awry till he meets and falls in love with a beautiful girl.

His boss also lays his eyes on the same girl, a model named Seema (Mamtha) and desires to add her to his list of mistresses.

Seema, a middle-class hostelite, has dreams of making it to the top of the glamorous world of fashion. While Guru begins to love Seema, she naively gets taken in by Krishna's smooth talk and is drawn towards him.

'Guru's dilemma is that he has to keep his boss happy to fulfill his ambition and yet he is aware that his beloved is being conned into a false relationship', Selvah says.

Vivek, M S Baskar, Manobala, Mayilsamy are also in the cast. Music is by Srikanth Deva while cinematography is by U K Senthil Kumar. The other credits are Siva Yadav (art), Thalapathy Dinesh (stunts) and V T Vijayan (editing).

Says Selvah, ' When I informed Shahrukh that I would be doing his 'Yes Boss' in Tamil, he immediately suggested Madhavan's name for the lead role. Madhavan too was eager to work in the project. Mamta plays the role enacted by Madhuri Dixit'.

Madhavan is upbeat about the movie. He says, 'I had seen 'Yes Boss' several times. It has emotions, romance and humor in it. Selvah is a crafty director, who can do justice to the script'

Says Vivek, ' In Guru En Aalu, I play a woman for the first time. Everyone on the sets including Madhavan was stunned by my looks'.
